Critical medical conditions (CMC), palliative & end of life care at Kay’s Kamp
FIREFLY Program for kids with cancer Being the parent and family of a child in critical medical care, palliative care or end of life care is a heartbreaking experience.  It’s so important to make that precious time together special and as full as possible. Kay’s Kamp offers a summer camp experience for children suffering from cancer who now require critical medical care.
What you need to know: Each family decides how much time is spent at kamp, whether one hour or an entire day.  Overnight kamping is available for those kids who have the desire and are able. Each child will be assigned to a one- on-one nurse (RN) to accompany them at all times.  Although parents will not be allowed to stay at kamp with their child, they will have cell phone access to that nurse at all times. Special arrangements can be made for parents at local lodging to remain close to Kamp while their child is enjoying fun and companionship with other kids dealing with cancer.

Firefly Program
From Dr. Elissa G. Miller, MD Kay’s Kamp is a wonderful opportunity for kids battling cancer and cancer survivors to spend some time “just being kids” in a supportive environment, surrounded by peers who understand what it means to live with cancer.  The Firefly program is a unique component of Kay’s Kamp that allows even the sickest campers and those who may be losing their battles with cancer – to enjoy a Kamp experience.  Kids whose families are focused on improving quality of life are invited to Kamp regardless of their level of physical and medical needs.  The support offered to kampers is simply amazing!  We in the Delaware Valley are extremely lucky to have such an incredible program to offer our patients.  Dr. Elissa G. Kay’s Kamp offers the FireFly Program for children currently in a palliative care program, dealing with complex medical conditions, or end of life care.  This program allows the Kamper to enjoy the fun and excitement of Kamp while providing 1:1 nurse-specified care shaped around the child’s needs.  To learn more about this unique part of Kay’s Kamp, contact Mary Ellen McKnight memcknight@kewf.org.
Letter from a parent Dear Mrs. Warren, I wanted to reach out to you to sincerely express my gratitude for everything you did to make my son (as well as myself) so comfortable with the entire Kay’s Kamp experience. Allowing us to have sleeping accommodations as well as the leisure to have my son just attend Kamp during the day, was more than appreciated. This experience for him and I was emotional. but, at the same time so, so very positive and uplifting. Each and everyday, (the little bit of words he could say), he was always so anxious to come back the next day. His eyes would just light up as we pulled up to Kamp, everyday! And that means so much to me. To see him so happy at such a low point in his life speaks volumes. And I owe it all to you and the entire staff at Kay’s Kamp. What you have done in bringing your daughters drean to life, is so wonderful and I am overjoyed that my son was able to be a part of it. With much gratitude and THANKS, Deanna Hollman
