® Early last fall, The KEWF met with the Architectural/Civil Club of Delaware Technical & Community College, Terry Campus, in Dover.  Under the direction of Dr. Lester LInk and R.C. Chandler, the club members agreed to design Kay’s Kamp as a two year project.  Their mission statement: to make Kay’s dream come true by the following: * Architectural exterior aesthetic ~ * Interior Settings ~ *Cost estimating Completed and Current Projects include: Kay’s House which is the main building that will consist of an auditorium, Kamp offices, meeting rooms, cafeteria and sleeping quarters.  This building will serve as “Kamp” until the permanent Kamp buildings are built. Our next big hurdle is to find land in Delaware to build a permanent home for Kay’s Kamp.  There are very few choices of existing  camp sites in the State of Delaware for  summer camps that are conducive to  our needs.  Due to the special  requirements for operating an oncology  camp, our goal is to ultimately acquire  land in Delaware to build the  permanent home of Kay’s Kamp.  Our  ideal would consist of 30 to 50 acres of  wooded land with pond, stream or  creek for fishing, but minimal wet lands  and sewer/septic, electric and water  need to be accessible.  When a  permanent site is found we would be  able to offer three weeks of camp each  summer. One week for children  suffering from cancer, one for their  siblings and a week for kids whose  parents are dealing with cancer.  Each  of these groups is in desperate need of  a retreat away from the realities  surrounding them on a daily basis.  For  the remainder of the summer, the camp  grounds could be leased to other  groups who wish to offer a week of  camp whether a medical camp or other  children’s groups as a means of raising  operating funds for camp.  St. Andrew’s  School has been so gracious and  offered their campus to Kay’s Kamp to  use this summer and we hope to  continue to hold Kay’s Kamp there until  land can be found.
